The GHAGO Substitute List is provided as a service to organizations looking to contract independent organists and/or choir directors. Any GHAGO member in good standing is eligible to be included on this list, upon their own request.
 

Employers are strongly encouraged to request references and/or representative recordings before contracting a particular musician. Inclusion on this list does not represent any particular level of proficiency. The information provided by those on the sub list has not been confirmed by GHAGO nor is GHAGO able to ensure that any individual is appropriate for any particular situation.

First Church of Christ - Wethersfield, CT

Organist/Choir Director

HISTORIC FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST IN WETHERSFIELD, CONNECTICUT, seeks an outstanding musician for the part-time position of Organist/Choir Director, whose chief task is to bring glory to God and edify the congregation. The desired candidate should be a stellar organist with significant professional training and accomplishment in organ and choral conducting, as well as possess a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ.

Selected Responsibilities: 

  • Demonstrates excellent organ and keyboard skills and has thorough knowledge of appropriate church music and its role in supporting worship.

  • Rehearses and directs the First Church Choir weekly from September to early June and seasonal Concert Choir twice yearly, training singers in appropriate technique and appreciation of sacred music.

  • Coordinates with Contemporary Worship Leader to select music for the Combined Worship Service regularly occurring on the first Sunday of each month, September to early June.

  • Revitalize the handbell choir with rehearsals and performances as needed.

  • Potentially expand the music ministry to add children and youth choirs.

Qualifications: 

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a combined church organist/conductor of multiple choirs (vocal, instrumental)

  • Bachelor’s degree in music

  • Master’s Degree (preferred, not required)

  • References upon request.

St. James' Episcopal Church - Glastonbury, CT

Part-Time Organist/Music Director

St. James’ Episcopal Church in Glastonbury (CT) seeks a part-time organist/music director beginning in 2026. St. James’ is a warm, vibrant, mid-sized Episcopal congregation that engages in rich liturgical worship with a variety of musical offerings. The director will lead music for the Sunday service and weekly rehearsals of the Adult Choir. Additional services include Celtic Vespers, Jazz Sunday, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week. Instruments include a 1965 Gress-Miles pipe organ and grand piano, and there are several parishioner instrumentalists. There is an extensive choral library and three congregational hymnals. Music budget includes funding for additional vocalists and instrumentalists on special occasions. St. James’ is looking to continue long-standing musical excellence in our services as part of our mission to the parish and the community.

Center Congregational Church - Meriden, CT

Part-Time Minister of Music/Organist/Pianist

This posting is for a Part-Time Church Music Director position at Center Congregational
Church in Meriden, CT. The position is to lead the church's music ministry and perform service
music and special selections for a Sunday worship service using the church’s 1962 Wick
organ, or a Steinway piano. While there is no established choir, the the successful candidate
will be tasked with engaging area professional soloist and ensembles and will work in
cooperation with the church minster and music committee to enhance the liturgical message of

the service through music.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with strong piano and organ- playing skills and who possess knowledge of a diverse repertoire of traditional and modern composers and arrangers.

 

Salary range is $15,000 to $20,000 commensurate with education, agreed on hours of engagement and prior church experience.

Bethany Lutheran Church - Cromwell, CT

Part-Time Music Director

The Music Director is responsible for leading the music during Lutheran (ELCA) liturgical worship.
This includes regular consultation with the Pastor to review hymnody, anthems and related music to enhance the worship experience. Also included is leadership and direction for a small senior choir. Available instruments include a Yamaha baby grand piano and Yamaha electronic piano/organ in the nave of the sanctuary and a 8-rank Wicks pipe organ in the sanctuary balcony.

Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell has been locally known as “the music church” for many years, with a long history of hosting concerts featuring members of the congregation, as well as having local groups that have used our facility for rehearsals as well as performances for many years. We are a small, caring and active community that spans a wide range of ages and demographics.
