Zion Lutheran Church - Portland, CT

Part-time Organist

5-10 hours per week. Chief responsibilities of the position involve playing the organ on Sundays and on other Holy Days established at the beginning of the church year. Other paid optional activities include weddings and funerals as needed.

Involvement in the Worship and Music Committee is required as this group of church members plans the hymns and services based on the church season. At this time the predominant need is for an organist but other activities, negotiable, could include establishing a church choir and other church music related activities. This position requires the ability to play both piano and organ, and ability to collaborate with people in a pleasant manner. The congregation is a small, devoted group of people with much enthusiasm about the liturgical music.

Our church has the following musical instruments: Moller pipe organ, Opus 7868, the primary instrument that leads worship (12 Ranks, 21 stops, 2 manuals & pedal, 8 general pistons); a Young Chang baby-grand piano also in the sanctuary; an Ahlborn-Galanti organ “Angelus model” in our air-conditioned fellowship hall and a Yamaha digital keyboard for use in any part of our church building.

Salary: $10,000-12,000 per year

Director of Music

Position is Part time with Vacation, sick and personal day benefits.

This part time position includes:

 

  • Select appropriate music and instruments for Sunday, and any special services in either the Sanctuary, or Chandler Hall.

  • Participate in the creative planning of the Sunday and special services with the pastoral team including but not limited to securing various instrumentalists to enhance the services.

  • Provide music for Sunday, and any special services in either the Sanctuary, or Chandler Hall. This may include special services such as Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunrise, Christmas Eve potentially including a mid day service and midnight service, Christmas Day, etc. Schedule of services will vary year to year, and shall be discussed at the annual review of the Director of Music.

  • Recruit, equip, motivate, supervise and shepherd music team members and musicians including making recommendations for increasing the music program and ensembles.

  • Conduct and lead weekly, Mid Week night time practice for all choirs and ensembles to prepare in advance all music offerings. Currently Choir practice is to be held on Wednesday evenings to accommodate the schedules of all participants, as well as increase potential for individuals with families to be able to participate.

  • Select music for all anthems, offertory, and special services and communicate all selections to the church office 2-3 weeks prior to service.

  • Select various instrumentalists for all special services that range in professional musicians as well as congregational members.

Minister of Music

First United Church of Christ, Congregational, Milford CT (UCC), an Open and Affirming church, seeks a skilled organist/pianist and choral conductor for a full-time Minister of Music position. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who is invested in cultivating a vibrant music community at First Church. The Minister of Music will play organ and direct adult and children’s choirs for in-person and live-streamed Sunday services and special services including Christmas Eve and Holy Week. Music Director / Accompanist

The Music Director/ Accompanist has primary responsibility for the leadership, development, and direction of the music program for the church which includes an adult choir and a handbell choir. In conjunction with the Pastor this person will oversee the year-round music ministry. It is hoped that over time a youth choir will be added. This person will conduct the choirs, and serve as the pianist and organist. Rehearsals are currently held weekly on Weds evenings for the vocal choir and on Thurs evening for the bell choir as well as a time before the Sunday service, which begins at 10:00 a.m. The music director will provide piano/organ accompaniment for congregational singing during the services. The position includes one weekly service and some special services during the liturgical year. Currently there is ***one Sunday off each month***. Organist/Music Director

The First Congregational Church of West Brookfield,  United Church of Christ, is seeking a part time salaried Music Director/Accompanist to lead Sunday worship with the Pastor, inspiring the congregants through Christian-based music that may contribute to their spiritual growth. The position is expected to begin around September 1, 2023.

 

The Music Director/Accompanist will provide music, in coordination with the Pastor, for each Sunday service, designated holidays, and special events. Weekly services include: prelude, offertory, accompaniment for hymns, choral responses and anthems, instrumental music, offertory music, special music, prelude, and postlude, utilizing piano, organ, or other instruments. The music will follow the liturgical calendar and the theme of the planned service, using a variety of genres. 

 

Sanctuary instruments include an 1880 Johnson Tracker Organ and a Yamaha Clavinova keyboard, which is most often used.  We often utilize a trumpeter and drummer. While ability to play the organ is not necessary, this skill would be appreciated.

            

Salary: $10,000-12,000/yr
