LETTER FROM THE DEAN:
Dear Members,
We're very excited to host a silent film screening of the 1927 cult classic Metropolis with live organ accompaniment by Peter Krasinski at Central Baptist Church (Hartford, CT) on Saturday, April 13th at 3:00pm. This matinee showing is not to be missed! It's not often that events like this are available (at least, not in the year 2024!) are we're thrilled to be in position to host it. This event will include, of course, a live soundtrack for a screening of the 1927 sci-fi/thriller by an organist who is acclaimed internationally for this particular kind of theatre organ playing. Come out to see this one-of-a-kind event! Bring some friends! It's free.
Michelle Horsley, Dean
We are also putting together an AGO Members' Recital which will be a celebration of the new Noack installation, Opus 167, at Sacred Heart Parish in New Britain, CT on May 11th at 7:00pm. AGO members are invited to perform on the new organ as we honor it together. Email us if you'd like to perform!
We're also putting the arrangements together for our Annual Meeting, which this year will fall on Monday evening, June 3rd. The details regarding catering and exact location are still being sorted out, but we will announce them long before the June date. At this annual meeting, we discuss the previous season, give a preview for the upcoming season, review chapter documents, and vote on a budget as well as leadership slate. After 4 years as Dean, I will be ending my term and a new Dean will be elected. As announced in last month's newsletter, the board has also recently hired an Administrative Director to help with duties which we no longer have volunteer leadership to take on. (Managing job postings, website updates, social media, substitute spreadsheets, Jolidon payments, etc.) Much like many non-profits these days, we are having to carefully discern new systems of accountability if we are to attract fabulous volunteer leaders and ensure the continued success of our chapter. In a change from previous systems, we are also this year accepting nominations from the entire chapter for board membership. Would you or someone you know be interested in possibly serving as a member-at-large, if voted on by membership? Do email us and let us know! We would love to have more voices included in our leadership panel.
Also, please note that the application for Jolidon grant funding in the 2024-2025 is now available! Find it on the Hartford AGO website under "Funding Opportunities." Deadline for submission is May 15th. Decisions will be made by June 1st. Awardees of funding in the 2023-2024 season are strongly encouraged to fill out post-event reports, also available on our website.
As always, we provide job listing, grants, substitute lists, and organ scholarships year-round. Contact us anytime at HartfordAGO@gmail.com

The American Guild of Organists was founded in 1896 as an educational and service organization and is headquartered in New York City. Under the leadership of the National Council, a network of volunteer officials at the regional, district and local levels directs the activities of the guild.
