Welcome from the Dean WELCOME to the GREATER HARTFORD CHAPTER of the AMERICAN GUILD of ORGANISTS We are so pleased that you are visiting our site. There are numerous events that are being offered so browse freely and mark your calendars now so you won’t miss a thing. Our September kick-off will be an organ concert performed by a truly gifted and charming artist, Frederick Teardo, Associate Organist of St. Thomas Church 5th Ave. New York City. He is a Waterbury native, and already a long-time AGO member who began his organ studies at a young age with our very own Stephen Roberts. Fred has always seemed “just out of reach” as he concertized in nearby cities in past years and now we finally have a chance to be his host. October brings our annual Pipe-screams Halloween themed Concert performed by chapter members on a fine Schoenstein pipe organ for the enjoyment of children and families- some of whom have attended time and time again, and for others it will be their first pipe organ experience. This is one of the many educational opportunities that our chapter offers. Always on the heels of Thanksgiving is the season of Christmas. But Christmas would not be the same if we did not hear at least once, the sound of brass, as the Empire Brass Quintet ushers in this most-anticipated and enjoyed holiday of the year. Our big event for the year is a Mini-Convention to be held in March featuring workshops suggested by our members. More details as they become available. And April showers may come your way but Pedals, Pipes and Pizza is back by popular demand and coming our way to Hartford area churches on April 24. Here is an educational opportunity for the young pianist to participate in an introduction to the pipe organ. It’s great fun. Encourage your students to give it a try! Our season usually ends with the Annual Meeting/ Dinner in May but this year we are offering one additional event--an event that should prove to be extraordinary and shouldn’t be missed. In June, the early music vocal ensemble, Pomerium, will present a program of a cappella music entitled Mannerist Music of the Renaissance brought to Hartford by the Association of Anglican Musicians’ National Conference and co-sponsored by Christ Church Cathedral and The Hartford Chapter. As a visitor, please know that you are welcome to our events and I would be personally pleased to meet and talk with you. You can identify me by my name tag at any event. You will find more detailed information about all of our program events on the Calendar Page. Mary Rose DiGiovanna, Dean
